Wilson County Release Records
A Wilson County release records one custody event. It does not always mean the person walked into the community. The Wilson County Jail may release someone on bond, after time served, under a court order, to probation, or to another agency. A transfer to the Tennessee Department of Correction, another jail, the U.S. Marshals Service, or immigration custody ends WCSO custody while confinement continues elsewhere. The destination is therefore as important as the word “released.”
Recent county events appear through the Wilson County Sheriff’s Office portal. State felony custody and supervision appear in Tennessee’s Felony Offender Information Lookup, or FOIL. A court order explains the legal reason for a custody change, while the jail or prison record shows when the physical event occurred. Matching these sources prevents a roster disappearance from being mistaken for freedom.
- Time served
- A sentence outcome crediting time already spent in custody.
- Parole
- Conditional community release before a prison sentence expires.
- Probation
- Court-ordered community supervision, sometimes after split confinement.
- Discharge
- The end of the custody or supervision recorded by that agency.
How Wilson County Inmates Leave
The event label determines which office can verify what happened next. Bond and recognizance usually end jail custody while a case remains open. A dismissal or release order can authorize departure, yet processing or another hold may delay it. A TDOC transfer is a new custody stage. Parole and probation place a person in the community under defined conditions, while sentence expiration or inactive status may indicate that the named agency no longer supervises the person.
| Release type | Meaning | Next source |
|---|---|---|
| Bond or court order | County custody ends subject to the case and any other hold | WCSO release sheet and Wilson court order |
| Time served or sentence end | The recorded county sentence is complete | Jail record and judgment |
| Probation | Community supervision imposed by the court | Judgment, FOIL, and TDOC Community Supervision |
| Parole | Conditional release from state custody | FOIL, Board action, and TDOC Release Authorization |
| Agency transfer | WCSO custody ends but another custodian receives the person | FOIL, VINE, BOP, ICE, or the receiving jail |
A death, escape, or detainer handoff may also close one agency’s active custody entry. Those events must never be grouped with ordinary community release. Read the exact label and obtain the underlying sheet when the distinction matters.
Wilson County Release Record Fields
A useful county record ties the person to a specific booking and records both timing and destination. WCSO’s public pages do not publish a complete field dictionary, so an online card should be read as displayed rather than supplemented with guessed fields. A written request can name the existing facts sought. For state custody, TDOC form CR-1947 is stronger than a prospective eligibility date because it records the completed event.
| Field | What it establishes |
|---|---|
| Name and booking or TDOC ID | Links the event to one person and custody file |
| Admission or sentence data | Identifies the custody period tied to the release |
| Release date and time | Records when that agency ended custody |
| Release type or “Released by” | Shows the authority or reason recorded |
| Released to or destination | Distinguishes community departure from transfer |
| Supervision status | Shows whether parole or probation follows |
TDOC’s Release Authorization also includes a photograph, physical identifiers, sentence dates, release eligibility, custody level, intended address, signatures, and checks for records, property, money, identification, GPS, and gate release. Some details may be redacted under law. FOIL is a public index and may not contain the complete legal file.
Request Wilson County Release Records
For a county booking, call WCSO Records at 615-444-1412 option 2 and ask for the current submission channel. The public WCSO pages reviewed do not state a request email, photo fee, turnaround, or records-office hours. Wilson County’s general coordinator can route requests, but the county policy says the Sheriff’s Department maintains a separate policy. Do not assume the general county mailbox is the final custodian.
- Identify the person with full name, aliases, booking number if known, and an approximate booking or release date.
- Ask for the existing booking and release sheet, including recorded date, time, release type, and destination fields.
- Request inspection or an electronic copy if maintained, and seek a cost estimate before chargeable work.
- If part is withheld, request the nonexempt remainder and the legal basis for the withheld portion.
For a former state prisoner, use the TDOC archived record request and ask for form CR-1947 or another record showing “Date of Release” and “Released To.” Include the TOMIS number, date of birth, approximate facility and release date, and contact information. TDOC says archive-search charges may apply and that it will notify the requester. It instructs requesters not to prepay.
Wilson County Public Record Limits
The Tennessee Public Records Act generally permits Tennessee citizens to inspect public records unless another law makes them confidential. The definition can include documents and photographs made or received in official business. A request must describe an existing record with enough detail to locate it. An office need not create a new report or answer a research question.
If an office cannot promptly produce a record, the statutory framework calls for a response within seven business days that produces it, denies access in writing with a basis, or gives an estimated production time. That is not a universal delivery deadline. Juvenile, sealed, expunged, investigative, medical, victim, and security information may be withheld or redacted. Ask for the reasonably separable public portion.
Online retention for WCSO’s Released search is not published. Missing results do not prove that no booking or release occurred. Copies may carry permitted labor or duplication charges, but no Wilson sheriff-specific schedule was verified. Request an estimate instead of assuming a price.
Note: The seven-business-day rule governs the agency response, not a guaranteed date for final record delivery.
Wilson Release Records After Expungement
Release does not cause expungement. A person must use the process for the court where the Wilson County matter began. Potential eligibility depends on the actual disposition and Tennessee Code section 40-32-101. Dismissal, no true bill, acquittal, or release without charge may follow a different path from a qualifying conviction, and many convictions do not qualify.
Start with the docket and charging data, then follow the Tennessee court expungement steps. The Administrative Office of the Courts recommends keeping certified copies of the expungement order and charging instrument. That documentary trail helps correct an old record when a photo or arrest entry no longer carries its disposition. Official expungement does not guarantee that every private copy vanishes.
The official court page shows the required process and reinforces a key distinction: a Wilson County release event and a final case result are separate records.
Find Wilson County Released Inmates
Start with the custodian and time window. WCSO offers a rolling 24-hour Intake/Release page, a rolling 72-hour page, and a name search with a Released checkbox. The short windows mix intake and release activity, so inspect the event instead of treating every card as a release. For an older county stay, search first and last name with Released selected. Common names require careful identity checks.
- Check the official 24-hour Intake/Release view for the most recent day, then the 72-hour view for the last three days.
- For an older event, use Search Inmates and select Released. Check spelling, aliases, and available identifiers.
- If a state transfer is plausible, search Tennessee FOIL by name, TOMIS ID, or SID and review Assigned Location and Supervision Status.
- Check VINE for the named agency and status, then use court, federal, or immigration sources when those systems controlled the person.
- Confirm a consequential result with WCSO or TDOC’s underlying release record.
The official WCSO portal navigation displays all three county routes. It is the best first source for recent Wilson County released inmates, though live lists may present an access challenge and their refresh schedule is not published.
Wilson Released Inmates in FOIL
TDOC explains that FOIL covers felony offenders who are currently or formerly in state custody or supervision. That makes it a real released-person source for a Wilson County defendant who entered TDOC jurisdiction. It does not cover a misdemeanor-only jail stay. FOIL is also available in the MyTN app under Public Safety.
| Search mode | Input | Best use |
|---|---|---|
| Name | Last, first, optional alias and race | When no state ID is known |
| TDOC or TOMIS ID | State corrections identifier | Cleanest match to one state file |
| State ID or SID | Tennessee state identifier | Alternate precise identity route |
Complete the case-sensitive CAPTCHA, then compare birth date, photo, physical details, IDs, aliases, sentence data, Assigned Location, and Supervision Status. “Release Eligibility Date” is the earliest possible parole consideration point under the governing sentence law. It is not a promised exit date. “Sentence End Date” also does not prove actual early release. For a completed event, obtain the TDOC Release Authorization.
The FOIL search screen shows the state lookup modes used for Wilson County state cases.
The screen separates name and identifier searches, which helps reduce false matches before release information is read.
Note: FOIL’s Release Eligibility Date is prospective; use the Release Authorization to confirm an actual state departure.
Wilson Release and Court Records
Wilson County has a two-stage criminal record path. General Sessions I and II handles misdemeanors and felony preliminary matters. Circuit Criminal holds indicted felony proceedings and final judgments. Both contacts are listed at 115 E. High Street in Lebanon, yet the files remain separate. One arrest may need a General Sessions docket and a later Circuit case number.
Use the clerk’s document request to seek specific records: the docket, charging paper, bond or release order, judgment, sentencing or probation order, dismissal, sentence satisfaction, and any public expungement order. A court order establishes legal authority. WCSO or TDOC establishes the physical custody event. Another warrant or detainer may delay release after an order.
The Wilson clerk materials identify the divisions needed to connect a jail release to its case outcome.
Requesting named documents is more reliable than asking a clerk to create a conclusion about whether someone was physically released.
Wilson Release Supervision and Reentry
The Tennessee Board of Parole makes parole decisions. TDOC Community Supervision supervises both parole and probation, while courts impose and revoke probation. FOIL can show Parole or Probation as Supervision Status and list an Assigned Location. Wilson’s local TDOC office is District 81 Wilson at 1432 W. Main Street, Suite 500 in Lebanon, phone 615-443-2759. The district spans Wilson, Robertson, and Sumner counties.
WCSO also documents local jail programming. Its corrections material lists Alcoholics Anonymous and weekly church or Bible study. A July 2025 news report described 67 HiSET graduates and Moving Forward classes during the preceding school year. These facts provide local reentry context, not a promise about any person’s outcome after release. Supervision must be verified through FOIL, the court order, and the correct TDOC office.
Parole, probation, and discharge are treated in depth on the Wilson County post-release supervision page.
Note: A program record and an official supervision assignment answer different questions and should remain separate.
Wilson Release Alerts and Transfers
Tennessee VINE and TN SAVIN can provide confidential notifications for participating county and state custody events. WCSO supplies a Wilson-specific route, while TDOC supplies its own state-offender layer. Search exact name or offender ID, verify the agency and identifiers, and read whether the event is release, transfer, or escape. A VINE notice is not a court disposition and cannot rule out another hold.
Federal custody uses a different chain. The BOP Locator covers sentenced federal prisoners and can display a past Release Date with no current BOP location. A person held only by the U.S. Marshals Service before trial may not appear there; use the Middle District of Tennessee docket or USMS records. “Not in BOP custody” does not exclude state, local, immigration, or supervised-release status.
ICE’s locator covers current detainees and people released from ICE custody during the preceding 60 days. A WCSO release to an ICE detainer is a transfer, not community freedom. No federal prison or verified ICE detention center was found in Wilson County. Follow the destination named by WCSO, then check the proper federal or immigration source.
Wilson Release Status by System
The same name can carry different statuses at different agencies because each record has a limited scope. Use the source that controlled the person at the relevant time.
| Question | Correct source | Key limit |
|---|---|---|
| Still in Wilson jail? | WCSO current search or Jail option 1 | Roster absence does not prove release |
| Recently left Wilson custody? | 24/72-hour activity and Released search | Transfer and community release differ |
| Former state felony custody? | FOIL and TDOC release record | Eligibility date is not actual release |
| Federal prison release? | BOP Locator | BOP status excludes other custodians |
| Recent ICE custody? | ICE ODLS | Post-release display is limited to 60 days |
When official sources conflict, compare dates and destination. WCSO “Released” alongside FOIL “Incarcerated” often points to a county-to-state transfer. An order of release alongside current jail custody may reflect processing or another hold. Stable IDs are safer than name alone.
Wilson Jail Release Context
WCSO describes Wilson County Jail as a 928-bed facility built in 1989, enlarged in 2007, and expanded again in 2023. The newest expansion doubled the stated capacity. The jail has held state certification since 1984 and includes several security, medical, detoxification, and special-needs units. Older county reports can use the former 458-bed figure, so capacity numbers need a date and context.
Capacity describes the site, not the outcome of a specific booking. Use the WCSO release record to establish whether someone left county custody and where the person went.
Wilson Jail Release Statistics
Wilson County Commission agenda packets can publish month-specific sheriff activity tables. The archived examples include measures such as total people booked through the jail, highest daily population, and average state-prison inmates. These are operational snapshots rather than permanent release statistics.
Any figure must keep its original month and row label. Older reports also reflect the jail’s former capacity before the 2023 expansion, and document text may need manual checking. An activity total cannot establish that one named person was released, nor can a booking total be restated as a release total. The individual WCSO record remains the correct evidence for a named custody event.
Note: A dated jail activity table provides local context but cannot replace a named person’s release sheet.
Wilson Workhouse Release Path
The Wilson County Workhouse Commission is described by WCSO as a jail detachment with the sheriff as superintendent. Workhouse crews perform litter cleanup along county roads and boat ramps, assist at the Agricultural Center and civic projects, and maintain a jail garden. Outside work remains custody. It is not proof of release.
No separate public-facing workhouse address, release desk, or independent roster was verified. A participant’s release follows the same WCSO portal and Records path as the Wilson County Jail. If the final record names TDOC or another agency as destination, continue with that custodian.
Wilson County Release Facilities
Wilson County has one verified local jail and a Workhouse detachment. State, federal, and immigration systems are included because a Wilson case can move into them, not because their prisons or detention centers are located in the county.
- Wilson County Jail: county booking, recent-release, and WCSO records path.
- Wilson County Workhouse Commission / detachment: same WCSO release route, with no separate public desk verified.
- Tennessee statewide prison system: FOIL and TDOC release authorization for state custody.
- Federal custody serving Wilson County: USMS and BOP records for federal matters.
- Immigration custody serving Wilson County: ICE locator and records for immigration detention.
A release is complete only within the named agency’s scope. The destination field, court record, and next custodian resolve whether the person entered the community or remained in custody.
Note: No separate state prison, federal prison, or verified ICE detention center is located in Wilson County.
