Tennessee Prison Release Destinations
A TDOC release can place a person in the community on parole, probation, determinate release, mandatory reentry supervision, or at sentence expiration. It can also be a release to a detainer, which means another county or agency takes custody. TDOC’s Offender Release Authorization records “Date of Release” and “Released to,” making it much stronger for the actual event than a forward-looking eligibility field.
Wilson County Jail may record a person as released when TDOC accepts custody. That county event is a transfer into the state system. FOIL’s Assigned Location and Supervision Status can resolve the apparent conflict. If FOIL says incarcerated at a state location, state custody continues. If it says parole or probation, the person is in the community under supervision. Inactive generally means no current TDOC custody or supervision, but the release detail should still be checked.
Confirm Tennessee Prison Releases
TDOC FOIL covers felony offenders who are currently or formerly in TDOC custody or supervision. Search by TOMIS/TDOC ID when possible, by State ID/SID, or by name. A name search should be matched with birth date, photo, identifiers, aliases, offenses, and sentence details. FOIL does not cover a Wilson misdemeanor-only detainee who never entered TDOC jurisdiction.
- Choose the ID or name search and complete the case-sensitive CAPTCHA.
- Open the carefully matched detail and read Supervision Status.
- Check Assigned Location to distinguish prison custody from a field supervision office.
- Read Sentence End Date, Release Eligibility Date, and hearing fields as separate labels.
- For actual release, request the Offender Release Authorization showing Date of Release and Released To.
A FOIL date can change as court papers arrive, sentences are combined, credits change, or discipline is imposed. TDOC warns that its online information may not be complete, current, or error-free. The Wilson County release search remains the right route for a local jail stay that never became a state felony commitment.
TDOC Release Records Contact
The Tennessee statewide prison system is not a local Wilson facility, so no Wilson street address should appear as its prison location. TDOC Records Management handles archived release records. Ask for form CR-1947 and any discharge or release notice showing the actual date and destination. Include the full name, TOMIS ID, birth date, approximate facility and release date, and requester contact information.

The official archived-record route says archive-search charges may apply and the requester will be notified. Do not prepay or invent a fee. Request the existing release authorization rather than asking TDOC to create a custody summary. If exempt material must be redacted, ask for the remaining public portion.
Tennessee Prisons Serving Wilson
The official TDOC prison list names fourteen prisons, and none is in Wilson County. A Wilson County defendant may remain in the county jail for a period after a state sentence or be transported to a TDOC institution elsewhere. FOIL identifies the assigned location at the time its source data was updated. That location, not the county of conviction, tells where state custody is being administered.
Trousdale Turner Correctional Center is in Trousdale County. Nashville institutions are in Davidson County. Neither becomes a Wilson County facility merely because it may house a Wilson defendant. This page therefore represents the statewide system serving Wilson cases and avoids suggesting that TDOC operates a prison inside Wilson County.
TDOC Release Search Fields
FOIL is unusually detailed, but each field has a defined scope. Supervision Status and Assigned Location describe the current or recorded state relationship. Sentence End Date marks the sentence endpoint shown by TDOC. Release Eligibility Date is the earliest parole-eligibility point under the applicable rules, not a promised gate date. Parole Hearing Date and Result describe the Board process, not completed release.
| FOIL field | Use |
|---|---|
| Supervision Status | Shows incarcerated, parole, probation, inactive, or another TDOC state. |
| Assigned Location | Names the prison or supervision assignment. |
| Sentence End Date | Shows the current sentence endpoint in TDOC data. |
| Release Eligibility Date | Shows an eligibility point, not actual release. |
| Parole Hearing fields | Show hearing timing and result, not the gate event. |
The detail can also contain a photograph, TDOC and SID numbers, aliases, physical identifiers, sentence length, custody level, sentence begin date, and active sentence information. An ID match is best. A photograph helps, but it may be old and cannot replace a stable identifier.
Wilson TDOC Supervision After Release
The Tennessee Board of Parole decides parole grants and revocations. TDOC Community Supervision supervises parolees and probationers. Courts impose probation. These roles must stay separate when a Wilson person has left prison but remains subject to supervision. A parole grant may also await an approved release plan and other conditions before TDOC completes release.

The TDOC field office directory shows that District 81 serves Robertson, Sumner, and Wilson counties, with its district office in Gallatin. FOIL’s Assigned Location and the Lebanon contact can clarify reporting jurisdiction. The office is a contact for supervision routing, not a source for confidential case material. Full discharge occurs when the relevant custody and supervision have ended, not merely when prison custody ends.
Wilson Jail to TDOC Transfers
A Wilson release result and a TDOC incarceration result can describe the same sequence. WCSO ends county custody by releasing the person to TDOC. TDOC then records the assigned prison location. The Wilson booking sheet’s destination, the court judgment committing the person to TDOC, and FOIL’s state assignment form a strong three-part check.
Do not treat the WCSO transfer date as the later state discharge date. State release must be established from TDOC status and release information, and, when exact proof is needed, the Release Authorization. Likewise, a court sentence explains legal authority but may not timestamp physical transportation or release processing.
- Eligibility
- The point at which release may be considered under the governing sentence rules.
- Parole
- Community release before sentence expiration under Board conditions and TDOC supervision.
- Probation
- Court-ordered community supervision, sometimes after split confinement.
- Inactive
- No active TDOC custody or supervision, subject to confirmation in the release record.
Note: Tennessee does not use a blanket eighty-five-percent rule for all sentences; offense, date, statute, and credits control.
Tennessee Release Dates Can Change
TDOC’s prospective dates must be read against the sentence and later records. Court documents can arrive after the first calculation. Consecutive sentences may be combined. Sentence-reduction credits can be earned, withheld, lost, or restored under the governing rules. Discipline, detainers, a parole decision, and release-plan requirements can also affect the path. FOIL therefore warns that its dates may change. Save the field label and access date. A later detail may differ after TDOC receives new legal or sentence information.
Release Eligibility Date is not a universal projected release date. Tennessee law varies by offense, offense date, sentence, and statutory subsection. The research found no blanket rule requiring every person to serve eighty-five percent. Anyone needing an authoritative calculation should use the judgment and current TDOC record rather than subtracting web dates or applying one broad percentage.
Even a favorable Board result is not the actual release. TDOC states that a parole grant waits for required conditions and an approved release plan. For the completed event, obtain the Release Authorization. For the supervision that follows, read FOIL’s status and Assigned Location and contact District 81 when Wilson reporting jurisdiction needs clarification.
Wilson TDOC Judgment Check
Keep the Wilson judgment with the TDOC record because it identifies the sentence that placed the person in state custody. If the online detail and judgment appear inconsistent, ask the court or TDOC to clarify the source record instead of recalculating from partial fields. The judgment, FOIL detail, and Release Authorization answer different parts of the state custody timeline.
